MC Oluomo leads tributes as Lagos NURTW leader, Baba Alado dies at 83 - Vanguard News
The National President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, Alhaji Musiliu Ayinde Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, has led tributes following the death of Lagos grassroots leader, Chief Taoreed Faronbi, fondly known as Baba Alado.
Faronbi died in the early hours of Saturday, September 26, 2026, at the age of 83.
His death was confirmed by his family, with burial rites conducted shortly afterward in accordance with Islamic tradition.
MC Oluomo, in a condolence message, mourned Faronbi, describing him as a respected figure whose contributions to the NURTW and the wider community would remain part of his legacy.
Faronbi was a prominent figure within the Lagos transport union and was widely known for his longstanding involvement in the activities of the NURTW.
Beyond the transport sector, he combined traditional, commercial and political influence across parts of Lagos.
He was the Olori Ebi of the Alagbeji Royal Family in Papa Ajao, Mushin, and also held the chieftaincy title of Akinrogun of Isolo Kingdom.
In the commercial sector, Faronbi was known as the Babaloja of Aswani International Market, a position that placed him at the centre of trading activities in the area for several years.
His burial attracted relatives, friends, community members and prominent figures from across Lagos.
Among those who attended were Senator Ganiyu Olanrewaju Solomon, the Executive Chairman of Mushin Local Government, Tunbosun Aruwe, and the Chairman of Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area, Dr Oluseyi Jakande.
Faronbi was also a familiar face in Lagosβ social and entertainment circles, maintaining relationships with leading Fuji and juju musicians.
Among the artistes associated with him were K1 De Ultimate, Osupa Saheed and Alabi Pasuma.
He was also involved in real estate and land development, although aspects of his activities in the sector occasionally generated disputes with communities and other parties.
His death has since triggered tributes from politicians, transport union leaders, entertainers, traders and residents of Mushin, who have continued to mourn the loss of a figure who occupied several spheres of Lagosβ grassroots life.
