In the latest turnaround in the Mayawati-Akash Anand saga, the BSP chief on Monday opened the party's doors to her nephew again, reappointing him as national convenor weeks after declaring him "completely free" from the organisation. This was the third time that a similar episode has played out.

Mayawati said the decision was taken after "considerable thought" and in the interest of the party and the Bahujan movement, ahead of the upcoming Uttar Pradesh elections. She added Anand had expressed his desire to return to the BSP and that the views of party members and his family were also considered before the decision was taken.

"After considerable thought, the party has decided, in the interest of the party and the movement, to once again appoint Akash Anand as the BSP's national convenor and give him an opportunity to work in the party again," Mayawati said in a post on X.

On September 3, Mayawati had removed Anand from the crucial post of national convenor. On September 10, she announced that he had been "completely freed" from the BSP, alleging that Anand was prioritising his family and personal interests over the party.

In her latest post, Mayawati said that while Anand's personality had largely been appropriate within the party, there had been certain reasons concerning him in recent days that had necessitated repeated changes in the party organisation.

"Since then, people have been observing quite a few changes in Shri Akash Anand's personality, work style, and so on, a special proof of which is a post he recently made on social media 'X' regarding his return to the party, which has also generated considerable discussion," she added. 1. . - -, , ... 2. ’ ’ , - , - 3. , * , ’’ , 4. , - . - 5. - ... Mayawati said she hoped Anand's return would bring stability to the party organisation following the retirement of Ashok Siddharth, Anand's father-in-law.

The BSP chief added, after Siddharth's retirement from politics, the party would now function "properly and smoothly" and that there would be no need for repeated changes in its organisation. "However, much of this will also depend on Shri Akash Anand," she said.

Following the announcement, Akash Anand thanked Mayawati for forgiving him and once again entrusting him with the responsibility of national convenor.

"You have forgiven me and once again entrusted me with the responsibility of National Coordinator of the Bahujan Samaj Party. For this trust, I am deeply grateful to you from the bottom of my heart, and I can never take it lightly," he wrote.. , , . , , - , , - ,β€” Akash Anand (@AnandAkash_BSP) October 5, 2026

Anand said the events of the past few times had taught him an important lesson that the movement was "far bigger than any one individual".

"Therefore, under your guidance, the welfare of the party and the movement will remain paramount for me. Renouncing all my personal interests, with discipline and complete dedication, I will work day and night to strengthen the organisation," he added.

Mayawati's latest decision comes as the BSP prepares for the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. She said the party was making enthusiastic and vigorous preparations with all sections of society.- Ends
