A 30-year-old woman was allegedly murdered by her husband at a mango orchard in Cheemanahalli village in Chikkaballapur district on Wednesday, after she objected to his extramarital relationship.
The deceased has been identified as Padma, a resident of Nakkalahalli village in Gauribidanur taluk. Her husband, Chandrashekar, 36, has been arrested in connection with the murder.
According to a complaint lodged by Padma’s mother, Narasamma, Padma and Chandrashekar had been married for several years and have three children. The couple had visited a relative’s house in connection with a family function on Wednesday. Around noon, they reportedly asked Narasamma to go to Shidlaghatta town on the pretext of buying chicken. At around 3.30 pm, Chandrashekar called Narasamma and allegedly informed her that he had murdered Padma at a mango orchard belonging to a man named Marappa in Cheemanahalli.
Narasamma, along with her husband Channappa, son Nagesh and daughter-in-law Chaitra, rushed to the orchard and found Padma murdered, the complaint said.
The police said Chandrashekar was having an illicit relationship with a woman in Goramunahalli. The issue had reportedly led to frequent quarrels between the couple. Despite family members advising them to resolve their differences, the disputes continued.
The police suspect that Chandrashekar murdered Padma by slitting her throat with a sharp weapon, after she objected to the relationship.
A case was registered at Shidlaghatta Rural police station under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. The accused later surrendered before Gauribidanur Rural police and was taken into custody. The Shidlaghatta police are investigating the case and seized the weapon allegedly used in the crime.
