Madlanga Commission rejects Bafana Sindane delay, orders Monday testimony ‘in whatever format’ - IOL

Taxi boss Bafana Sindane is expected to testify at the Madlanga Commission on Monday.

Madlanga Commission has dismissed taxi boss Bafana “King of the Sky” Sindane’s bid to postpone his testimony, ordering that evidence linked to him be heard on Monday, September 28.

The commission’s ruling on Friday leaves Sindane facing an appearance before the inquiry after he failed to testify on Wednesday, when he was subpoenaed.

“The evidence of or concerning Oupa Jossiah Sindane must be led on Monday in whatever format,” the commission ruled.

On Wednesday, his legal team submitted a medical certificate and sought a postponement until October.

His lawyer, Thabani Masuku, also told the commission that Sindane was pursuing a court order to stop the testimony and prevent the inquiry from using his cellphone messages as evidence.

Masuku argued that proceeding in Sindane’s absence could be unfair, particularly because the taxi boss was undergoing spiritual seclusion, which he described as a private and culturally significant process.

He also questioned whether Sindane would be able to properly follow proceedings even if his evidence were submitted.

Masuku said the legal challenge could ultimately determine whether the commission’s proceedings had merit.

Sindane is a close associate of Mpumalanga taxi boss Joe “Ferrari” Sibanyoni.

The pair are co-accused in a criminal case involving allegations of R2 million in extortion and money laundering in Mpumalanga.

The commission has now made clear that Sindane’s evidence will proceed on Monday, regardless of the format.
