Lucknow biriyani seller assaulted over 'banned meat' suspicion, 3 arrested
A biryani seller was stopped and beaten by a group of men in Lucknow's Itaunja area on Sunday morning after they accused him of carrying banned meat, police said. Three people have been named in a case registered in connection with the incident.
The victim, identified as Rizwan, runs a biryani stall in the Mahona area of Lucknow.
According to his complaint, he was travelling on a scooter at around 8.30 am on September 20, carrying meat to a hotel where it was to be used for food preparation and sale.
When Rizwan reached the Itaunja area, some men stopped his scooter. The men questioned him about the meat and accused him of carrying prohibited meat.
According to Rizwan's complaint, an argument broke out after he was stopped. He said the men abused him and then assaulted him with kicks, punches and belts.
Rizwan sustained injuries during the assault. He later approached the Itaunja police station and submitted a written complaint, seeking action against those responsible.
He named Rana Yadav, Shanu and Suraj in his complaint.
Police officials said the complaint includes charges related to assault, verbal abuse and threats. The exact circumstances leading to the confrontation are being investigated.MEAT SENT FOR EXAMINATION
DCP North Amit Kumar Anand said police took the meat found with Rizwan into custody following the incident.
A sample has been sent to a veterinary officer for examination to establish the nature of the meat. Police said further action regarding the meat would depend on the findings of the examination.
The police are also examining the circumstances in which Rizwan was stopped and the subsequent assault.THREE NAMED IN CASE
Itaunja police station in-charge Sobarun Singh said a case had been registered against the three people named by Rizwan.
Police are examining the complaint, available videos and other evidence from the spot as part of the investigation. Officers are also looking into the sequence of events before and after the confrontation.
Police said the nature of the meat has not been established yet and that the sample examination would be taken into consideration during the investigation.
The case is now under investigation, with officers examining the evidence and statements related to the incident. Further legal action will be taken based on the findings of the probe and the veterinary examination.
