MANILA, Philippines — The low-pressure area west southwest of Bataan has developed into Tropical Depression Henry, with PAGASA raising Signal No. 1 over parts of Zambales, Bataan and Lubang Islands on Wednesday morning, July 1.

In its 5 a.m. bulletin, the state weather bureau said Henry was last spotted 115 kilometers west southwest of Abucay, Bataan as of 4 a.m.

The tropical depression was packing maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts of up to 55 kph. It had a central pressure of 1002 hectopascals.

Henry was moving northwest at 25 kph, with strong winds extending up to 150 kilometers from its center.

Signal No. 1 is up over the southwestern portion of Zambales, specifically San Antonio, Castillejos, Subic and Olongapo City; the western portion of Bataan, specifically Morong, Bagac and Mariveles; and Lubang Islands.

Areas under Signal No. 1 may experience strong winds of 39 to 61 kph within 36 hours, with minimal to minor threat to life and property.

PAGASA said the periphery of Henry and the southwest monsoon, locally known as habagat, will bring strong to gale-force gusts over several areas, especially coastal and upland communities exposed to winds.

On Wednesday, these gusts may affect Batanes, Cagayan, Ilocos Norte, Pangasinan, Tarlac, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Bulacan, Metro Manila, Calabarzon, Occidental Mindoro and Palawan.

By Thursday, July 2, strong to gale-force gusts may affect Batanes, Cagayan, Pangasinan, Zambales, Bataan and Palawan.

By Friday, July 3, these conditions may be felt in Pangasinan, Zambales and Palawan.

PAGASA said local winds may be stronger in coastal, upland and mountainous areas exposed to winds, while areas sheltered from the prevailing wind direction may experience weaker winds.

The weather bureau also referred the public to Weather Advisory No. 12 for the heavy rainfall outlook due to Henry and the southwest monsoon.

Henry is forecast to move generally west-northwest away from the Philippine landmass and may exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Thursday morning.

PAGASA said Henry will gradually intensify while moving over the West Philippine Sea and may reach tropical storm category by Thursday morning.

It is expected to remain a tropical storm for the rest of the forecast period.
