LOOK: Groups decry corruption on eve of 54th Martial Law commemoration - GMA Network

Several groups convened at EDSA Shrine on Sunday as they continue to seek accountability from those involved in corruption, just a day before the 54th commemoration of the Martial Law declaration.

Among those who participated at EDSA are students, teachers, labor groups, as well as the religious.

Despite the different calls for action, the protesters at EDSA were united in saying: "Never Again. Never Forget Martial Law."

Before proceeding to EDSA Shrine, civil society group August Twenty One Movement first held a motorcade in the morning going to the Supreme Court (SC) in Manila to air their grievances over the recent acquittal of former First Lady Imelda Romualdez Marcos of graft charges.

The SC recently overturned Imelda's graft conviction over her alleged financial interests in seven Swiss foundations, after finding the prosecution’s testimonial and documentary evidence inadmissible and lacking in probative value.

On the other hand, there were also groups who marched from the House of Representatives in Quezon City to EDSA Shrine. They are protesting against anomalous flood control projects in the country. The groups are also calling for an end to job contractualization and political dynasty.

Likewise, a group of students gathered at La Salle Greenhills in Mandaluyong City to proceed to EDSA Shrine and call for accountability on the flood control scandal.

Over 15,000 cops from the National Capital Region Police Office and nearby regions have been deployed since Saturday evening in preparation for the upcoming 54th Martial Law commemoration.

Meanwhile, Quezon City Police District personnel were already deployed at Welcome Rotonda in Quezon City amid the possible protests in the area on Monday.
