Live, October 2: Hockey, boxing, wrestling golds in focus
The equation is a bit tight for India in the women's quadrant event in sepaktakraw. They have lost both their matches played so far and enter into the tie with Thailand in a do-or-die situation. Vietnam are already into the semis, but group A remains wide open. If India can beat Thailand, then it will mean that the remaining three teams will end with two points.
Can India secure another medal in sepaktakraw?
The action for the Indian contingent kicked off early on Friday with the Indian male golfers. It is Saptak Talwar who is leading the way at the moment as he is tied 7th with 134. Veer Ahlawat is tied 16th with 147 and Yuvraj Sandhu is tied 23rd. India are in the fifth spot in the team rankings and will be hoping to enter the top three by the end of round three.
The female golfers, Aditi Ashok, Diksha Dagar and Pranavi Sharath Urs will start round three from 5:49 am IST.
Here's the schedule for the Indian contingent for October 2.
October 2 promises to be another busy day for India at the 2026 Asian Games, with the country’s athletes in medal contention across multiple disciplines.
The action gets underway in the morning, with India’s golfers and archers taking centre stage before the wrestling events begin. Dipanshi, Priya Malik, Sujeet and Rajat Ruhal will all enter the fray in their respective wrestling categories, with the hope of progressing deep into the competition.
Archery could provide India with more medal opportunities during the day, with the women’s team and mixed team events both featuring medal contests. Cycling will also have several events to watch, including the men’s Madison final, the concluding stages of the women’s omnium and the men’s keirin.
There is plenty to look forward to in the boxing ring as well. India have three fighters competing in gold-medal bouts, with Lovlina Borgohain, Parveen and Ankush all aiming to finish their campaigns with the top prize.
The wrestling mat could then become one of the main sources of medals for India in the afternoon. The finals of the men’s 65kg and 125kg freestyle categories are among the key events, while several bronze-medal bouts will also feature Indian wrestlers.
And then comes the big team event of the day.
At 3:30 PM, India’s women’s hockey team will take on China in the final, with a gold medal at stake. It will be one of the most anticipated events on a packed day for the Indian contingent.
From the opening events in the morning to the medal contests in the afternoon, October 2 has plenty lined up for India, with athletes across wrestling, boxing, archery, cycling and hockey looking to add to the country’s medal tally.
