Library and Archives Canada (LAC) holds records of prime ministers dating back to Sir John A. MacDonald, including personal correspondence, artworks, photos and speeches.“A Prime Minister’s time in office is documented through multiple sets of records acquired by LAC,” the library said in an emailed statement to the Ottawa Citizen in 2015, after it started the process to collect material from former prime minister Stephen Harper.
“These include official records such as Cabinet documents and the records of the government of Canada institutions, as well as websites. The records of parliamentarians are also acquired by LAC.”
