Latest on Bears QB Tyson Bagent's status ahead of Eagles game - Bears Wire
The Chicago Bears finally got some good news at quarterback ahead of their Week 3 prime-time game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Head coach Ben Johnson announced that backup quarterback Tyson Bagent will be back at practice on Saturday and is one step closer to officially clearing concussion protocol. Meanwhile, starter Caleb Williams won't practice on Saturday, which pretty much guarantees he won't see the field on Monday night.
Bagent suffered a concussion after replacing Williams, who suffered a hamstring injury, late in the fourth quarter of last Sunday's loss to the Minnesota Vikings, which is when Bagent was injured. He missed the first two practices of the week while in concussion protocol. But what does his practicing on Saturday mean for his availability for Week 3?
Bagent is the backup to Williams, which you'd expect to mean that the former undrafted free agent would get the start against Philadelphia. But third-stringer Case Keenum, who everyone expected to start, could still very much be the choice after serving as QB1 in practice on Thursday and Friday.
"Still some uncertainty of who's inactive and inactive," Johnson said. "...We want to play this thing out."
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Bagent needs to go consecutive days without symptoms after practicing before he's fully cleared from concussion protocol. Is it's very likely that we won't know who will start at quarterback for Chicago until the game kicks off Monday night at Soldier Field.
