Large police response in Sydney after man shot in broad daylight

Armed police are responding to a shooting in a residential area of southwest Sydney in Australia, where officers say a man was shot shortly after midday on Tuesday.

A 32-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to his leg and was treated by New South Wales ambulance paramedics, before being taken to hospital for further treatment.

The incident took place at about 12.40pm in the Charles Street in Liverpool, with authorities establishing a crime scene.

Police are still working to piece together what led to the shooting, while the shooter is on the run.

The condition of the victim is also not known at the moment.

“A crime scene has been established and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is underway,” a police spokesperson said.

The investigators have sought community support, asking witnesses to come forward with any information, or CCTV, mobile phone, or dashcam footage of the incident.
