Land acquisition and subsequent construction work for the Kuttikkada railway overbridge (RoB), a key infrastructure development project in the Eravipuram constituency in Kollam, will be completed in a time-bound manner, Vishnu Mohan, MLA, has said. Addressing concerns raised by local residents regarding potential delays, he added that the Chief Minister has already clarified in the board of directors meeting and the Assembly that ongoing policy discussions regarding KIIFB projects will not affect the current construction and land acquisition procedures.
Under the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement (LARR) Act, 2013, the preliminary notification under Section 11(1) was issued on November 14, 2024. Following this, the fund request of ₹45.357 crore and related bills submitted by the special tehsildar for land acquisition were submitted to KIIFB on May 29 this year. Subsequently, a special meeting was convened on July 29 at the KIIFB headquarters in Thiruvananthapuram to expedite technical procedures and secure funds for various project phases. KIIFB Additional CEO Mini Antony and senior officials from the Roads and Bridges Development Corporation of Kerala (RBDCK), the implementing agency, attended the meeting.
“The Chief Minister has assured that there will be no delay in releasing funds for the land acquisition process. With the validity of the existing Section 11(1) notification set to expire on November 13, the government issued an order dated October 27, extending the notification’s validity. Additionally, a decision has been taken to deploy traffic wardens to temporarily relieve ongoing traffic congestion in the area,” said the MLA.
