Lamola takes aim at Trump's Afrikaner policy as US tensions deepen

International Relations and Cooperation Minister Ronald Lamola has criticised US President Donald Trump's Afrikaner resettlement programme, accusing the US of applying a race-based approach.

Lamola made the remarks at the African Diaspora Forum in Washington, where he is seeking to engage policymakers and rebuild diplomatic ties between the two countries.

His comments come amid heightened tensions between Pretoria and Washington, following new US restrictions targeting South African officials over policies including land expropriation without compensation.

Speaking on 702, international relations analyst Dr Oscar van Heerden said South Africa would have to endure pressure from the Trump administration while navigating its strained relationship with the US.
