One of Nigeria’s Fuji musicians, Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as Kwam 1, has brokered a peace deal between the National Union of Road Transport Workers’ National President, Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, and the Lagos State Chairman of the union, Mustapha Adekunle, aka Tafa Sego. The reconciliation took place at Ojusagbola in Ijebu, Ogun State, with several NURTW chieftains present. The development was announced on Tuesday through Kwam 1’s digital media page on Instagram, where photographs from the meeting were shared. According to the post, the two NURTW chieftains had finally settled their differences after years of an age-long rift. “After years of an age-long rift, MC Oluomo and Tafa Sego have finally settled their differences. And from what we know now, this is final,” the post said. The two old friends and colleagues came together at Ojusagbola, with King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal (K1) playing the peacemaker.” The post said Kwam 1 intervened in his capacity as the Mayegun of Yorubaland, seeking an end to the disagreement between the two NURTW figures. “K1 acted in his role as the Mayegun of Yorubaland by seeking an end to the long-standing rift, once and for all,” it said.See more Punch stories on Google.Add Punch on Google It added that both parties were pleased with the development. “Both parties are delighted about the new development,” the post said. The disagreement between the two men has been linked to the leadership of the union in Lagos, with both emerging as prominent figures within the transport organisation. In January 2019, MC Oluomo was among several people injured during violence at an APC campaign rally at the Sky Power Ground in Ikeja, Lagos. PUNCH reported at the time that a supremacy battle involving supporters of MC Oluomo and Sego disrupted the rally, with MC Oluomo stabbed and taken to hospital. The police subsequently declared Sego wanted over the incident. In September 2019, PUNCH reported that Sego, despite having previously been declared wanted by the police over the APC rally violence, was appointed to the caretaker committee of the NURTW led by MC Oluomo. Tensions surrounding the Lagos chapter of the union resurfaced in subsequent years, particularly over leadership and control of the union’s operations. A meeting facilitated by then Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and other government officials led to changes in the union’s leadership structure, with MC Oluomo stepping aside from the Lagos chairmanship. A video from the event showed members associated with Sego’s faction reacting after Kwam 1 publicly recognised MC Oluomo as the head of the NURTW. The incident reportedly caused a commotion at the event, after which the Fuji musician appealed to the NURTW leaders to unite. With the latest meeting, Kwam 1’s digital media page said the long-standing disagreement had been resolved. “After years of an age-long rift, MC Oluomo and Tafa Sego have finally settled their differences.
