Kondotty school launches website to help differently-abled persons

Additional District Magistrate Sadiq P.O. on Saturday (September 26) launched the official website of Chirak, a project by EMEA Higher Secondary School, Kondotty, to help differently-abled persons and their families access information, services and opportunities.
The website brings together information on government welfare schemes, pensions, education and employment opportunities, rights and other services. It also provides details of required documents and application procedures.
A dedicated section allows persons with disabilities to showcase their work in art, literature and other fields. Another section features the achievements and experiences of persons with disabilities who have excelled in different areas.
The website will also carry updates on Chirak’s activities, programmes, support schemes and announcements. School officials said the platform aims to improve awareness of the rights and opportunities available to persons with disabilities.
Amal Iqbal, a disability rights advocate, motivational speaker and national-level arm-wrestling champion, is Chirak’s brand ambassador. Division councillors Fousiya Iqbal and V.K. Khalid are supporting the initiative.
School clubs, the Amal Inspires collective, the District Social Justice department, Kudumbashree units, ASHA workers, social organisations, former students, parent-teacher association (PTA), school management and special educator Rashid Payeri are also involved.
Earlier this month, District Collector Vinay Goyal launched a privilege card under the Chirak project. The card offers persons with disabilities discounts of up to 50% and other benefits at participating institutions, including hospitals, vehicle service centres, entertainment centres, Akshaya centres, educational institutions, medical shops, laboratories, stationery shops and malls.
K.M. Ismail, the project’s teacher coordinator, said it was the first initiative of its kind to be implemented at the school level in the country.
