Almost five months after coming to power in West Bengal, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government on November 5, 2026 came out with an investment promotion policy to boost the dwindling industrial prospects of the State.
The West Bengal Investment Promotion Policy, 2026, that comes into effect from May 9, 2026, is a 34-page policy document aimed at attracting investment in the State. The West Bengal government held a series of discussions with members of the cabinet, BJP MLAs and prominent industrialists before coming out with the document. The policy aims to create a roadmap for bringing in new investment in the industry-starved State, a promise made by the BJP leaders during 2026 Assembly polls, and one of biggest challenges for the Suvendu Adhikari government.
