Kartik Aaryan wins first National Film Award for 'Chandu Champion'

Indian actor Kartik Aaryan won his first National Film Award, receiving the Best Actor in a Leading Role honour for his performance in Chandu Champion. In a lengthy note shared on Instagram, Aaryan reflected on growing up in Gwalior as a self-described "mumma's boy," in an environment where such acting ambitions were often dismissed rather than encouraged. The actor described himself as "still feeling numb with excitement and nerves even after living through the moment." He also called the achievement a dream shared by every actor in the country, referencing his film's own tagline — that he wasn't just Chandu, but a champion.           View this post on Instagram                       Further, Aaryan thanked the director and producer of Chandu Champion for entrusting him with the role of Murlikant Petkar, India's first Paralympic gold medallist in freestyle swimming. The actor noted that he would "always be grateful and indebted" to them for the responsibility. He credited his parents' blessings and unconditional support as his constant anchor through his journey, alongside encouragement from friends during moments of doubt and the tireless work of his team. "I dedicate the honour to every Paralympian in the country and to anyone who dares to chase what seems impossible," he added. Aaryan closed his note expressing hope for more milestones ahead. Chandu Champion was released in 2024 and traces Petkar's journey as an athlete. Aaryan underwent an extensive physical transformation for the role. The actor first rose to prominence with films such as Pyaar Ka Punchnama and Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety, before establishing himself as one of Bollywood’s leading performers, with successful projects including the second and third instalments of Bhool Bhulaiyaa.
