Kanpur tourist killed, 17 injured in accident on Srisailam Ghat road

A 25-year-old tourist from Kanpur was killed and 17 others, including two motorcyclists, were injured after a passenger vehicle hit a motorcycle and overturned on the Srisailam Ghat road in Nagarkurnool district on Monday morning.

The deceased was identified as Aman Gupta. Amarabad Inspector Chandraiah said a group of 16 people from Kanpur had come to visit the temple and were returning when the accident occurred near the Octopus viewpoint in Eegalapenta between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m.

According to the officer, the driver of the Trax Toofan vehicle was trying to avoid a motorcycle coming from the opposite direction from Hyderabad when the accident occured. “The car driver, in an attempt to avoid hitting the motorcycle, rammed into a tree. However, the two men on the motorcycle also fell in the impact, which brought the tree down and the vehicle overturned,” explained the officer.

Gupta, who was travelling in the Toofan, died while undergoing treatment. The remaining 15 occupants sustained injuries. The two persons on the motorcycle also suffered grave injuries.

Police rushed the injured to the Government Hospital in Achampet for treatment and some were taken to a private hospital. The body of the deceased was sent for post-mortem examination. Police said the circumstances leading to the accident were being investigated.
