Justin Timberlake's Britney Spears documentary plans hit a road block - Geo News
Justin Timberlake reportedly wanted Britney Spears to revisit their complicated past for his upcoming documentary.
There was just one problem: she had no interest in stepping back into that chapter of her life.
According to Rob Shutter, Timberlake’s team approached Spears about appearing in his upcoming four-part Apple TV series, hoping she would discuss their former relationship on camera.
But the pop star reportedly declined, leaving producers without the high-profile reunion they may have been hoping for.
And given that Britney has already laid out her side of the story in her bestselling memoir, The Woman in Me, it's fair to ask why she should do it all over again for her ex's project.
“Britney has already been incredibly honest about what happened. She doesn’t need to sit in front of a camera and relive it all over again, especially in a documentary centered on Justin. Her first major on-camera appearance since the conservatorship ended should be about Britney, her life and her future — not her ex-boyfriend,” a source said.
The insider also questioned Timberlake’s motives, adding: “Justin may genuinely want her involved, but the optics are terrible. After everything Britney has said about how their breakup affected her, this could look like another attempt to use her story to rehabilitate his image. She has worked too hard to reclaim her voice to become part of somebody else’s comeback,”
The report claims producers were privately relieved she wouldn't participate, avoiding another round of Britney-versus-Justin headlines.
Directed by Fisher Stevens, the series will revisit Timberlake’s career controversies, including his breakup with Spears and the infamous Janet Jackson Super Bowl incident.
Jackson is also expected to address the fallout.
