Julius Mkhwanazi's dismissal from EMPD has nothing to do with criminal cases - City of Ekurhuleni - EWN

The City of Ekurhuleni said the dismissal of Julius Mkhwanazi from the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) has nothing to do with the many criminal cases he's facing.

Mkhwanazi was fired from the EMPD on Friday following a series of criminal and corruption allegations.

One of them includes dishing out blue lights to alleged criminal cartel member Vusimusi 'Cat' Matlala.

City of Ekurhuleni spokesperson Phakamile Mbengashe said Mkhwanazi's dismissal was purely based on the internal disciplinary hearing that found him guilty.

“The decision was taken by City Manager Kagiso Lerutla following careful consideration of the circumstances affecting the employment relationship.”
