JI opposes 'plan' to lease out KWSC land

Jamaat-i-Islami Karachi Naib Emir and KMC Opposition Leader Saifuddin Advocate has alleged that after the 'sale' of valuable KMC properties, efforts are now underway to distribute or lease out land belonging to the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC). He alleged that such arrangements were being pursued under the labels of public-private partnerships and short-term leases, describing them as an attempt to mislead the public. He accused the city administration under Mayor Murtaza Wahab of allowing corruption and the alleged misuse of public land. Saifuddin demanded a forensic audit of the KMC Land Department and called for an investigation into officials and private individuals allegedly involved in preparing fraudulent documents. He urged investigative and law-enforcement agencies to take action to protect valuable public land. He said the JI would oppose any move to dispose of public property and argued that Water and Sewerage Corporation land was intended for public welfare and should not be leased or diverted for other purposes. Saifuddin alleged that several parks had been handed over for commercial activities under public-private partnership arrangements, where permanent structures had been built and facilities such as paddle courts were being operated for high rents. He claimed that a similar arrangement had been made at the KMC Sports Complex.kwsc
