TOKYO, Nov. 4 (Xinhua) -- Japan's benchmark Nikkei stock index tumbled more than 3 percent Wednesday morning ahead of the results of the U.S. midterm elections.
At 10:43 a.m. local time, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average was down 1,915.36 points, or 3.04 percent, from Monday at 61,166.50.
The broader Topix index, meanwhile, was 70.14 points, or 1.78 percent, lower at 3,860.14.
Japanese markets were closed on Tuesday for a public holiday. ■
