Japan reaffirms support for Nepal at UN over flash flooding - Nikkei Asia

NEW YORK (Kyodo) -- Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi on Monday reaffirmed Japan's support for Nepal following recent flash floods in a meeting with his Nepalese counterpart, Shisir Khanal, on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly.

According to the Japanese Foreign Ministry, Motegi said Japan stands with Nepal and intends to support its response to the disaster, which struck in August, into the long term. The two countries are marking the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations this year.

In their meeting in New York, Motegi and Khanal discussed Japan's assistance to Nepal, including emergency relief supplies and $3 million in emergency grant aid through international organizations, as well as the supply of DNA testing equipment and the dispatch of an expert team to assist with victim identification, the ministry said.
