Top Iranian officials have said President Donald Trump has paid the price for the war he started with Tehran following Republican losses in the U.S. midterm elections.

"The scandal that happened to Trump's party in the U.S. elections was caused by the heavy defeat of the United States in warmongering against Iran," said Hamidreza Moghaddamfar, advisor to the Commander-in-Chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), according to the semi-official Tasnim News Agency.

Moghaddamfar added that the election—which delivered majorities for the Democrats in both the Senate and the House of Representatives—"was actually a major referendum in the United States about the outcome of the war."

Meanwhile, the speaker of Iran's parliament, Mohammad Ghalibaf, also take aim at Trump, posting on X: "conscience or the cost of living, Americans said NO TO WAR, and we endorse this message."

"If the US government betrays their public will to serve international paymasters and blackmailers, it will learn our NO comes with a nightmare," he said, according to a translation.

Tehran's blocking of the Strait of Hormuz in retaliation for joint U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran pushed up fuel prices globally, and the increased gas price in the U.S. was a major voting concern for many Americans.
