Xiamen's World Ocean Week is giving the public a rare chance to climb inside a full-scale simulator of China's Jiaolong manned submersible.

Jiaolong is China’s first operational deep-sea manned submersible that was independently designed, integrated and developed in China. It has a designed depth of 7,000 meters, a normal endurance of 12 hours and an emergency endurance of 84 hours. As of early November, Jiaolong has completed 475 dives.Β

CGTN's Liu Jiaxin took a simulated dive with a real Jiaolong pilot to find out what 7,000-meter pressure feels like, and why deep-sea exploration matters.Β
