Indonesia Records 1,025 Child Abuse Cases in Post-Flood Aceh - Tempo.co English
TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection reported 1,025 cases of violence against children in Aceh post-floods and landslides that struck the region last year.
"According to the Simfoni PPA (Online Information System for the Protection of Women and Children), in 2025 there were approximately 1,025 cases reported in Aceh Province, and 58 percent of them were in the nine disaster-affected districts," said Titi Eko Rahayu, Child Protection Deputy at the ministry, during the "Implementation of Accelerated Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction (PRRP)" event in Jakarta on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), three cases of sexual violence were recorded after the earthquake in the province. "There have been three incidents in NTT," said Titi Eko Rahayu.
Sexual assault in NTT occurred in empty houses abandoned by the homeowners due to fear of aftershocks. "In NTT, nearly all residents opted to leave their homes and set up tents independently," said Titi Eko Rahayu.
The Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection is also working to protect women and children in disaster areas by establishing Women and Children's Friendly Posts (Pos Sapa).
Pos Sapa will be established in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra, a necessity given the difficulty in accessing protection services in disaster areas, increased vulnerability to violence, and the need for ongoing psychosocial and protection services.
