The Indian Deep Tech Alliance (IDTA)’s members, which include individual and corporate investors from India and abroad, invested ₹2,170 crore in 56 deep-tech firms in India over the last year, the grouping announced at the Semicon India 2026 event. The investments were made “independently by individual IDTA members in accordance with their respective investment strategies and processes,” the alliance said in a statement.

Principal Scientific Adviser to the government Ajay Kumar Sood said the investments in the firms in question showed that the “vision” behind the ₹1 lakh crore Research, Development and Innovation (RDI) scheme of the Department of Science and Technology was “beginning to translate into measurable action”.

“The RDI Scheme and industry-led initiatives can complement each other in strengthening the pathways through which promising technologies move from the laboratory to the market and create long-term strategic and economic value for India,” Mr. Sood said.

Energy and climate-related start-ups received over 30% of the capital, with eight firms receiving ₹655 crore. Quantum, robotics and space start-ups received nearly a similar share, split among 21 companies. AI received nearly 30%, with 16 firms receiving ₹639 crore. The remaining ₹227 crore was split between 11 biotech, pharmaceutical and digital economy start-ups.

IDTA was announced at the previous year’s Semicon edition. Sriram Viswanathan, an IDTA member and a founding partner at Celesta Capital, said, “This is an important first milestone, but the larger task is to help India’s deep-tech companies build enduring businesses, access global markets and emerge as technology leaders in their respective fields.”
