IND vs NEP U19 Live: India opt to bowl, next-gen Sehwag and Dravid in focus
Hi and welcome to India Today's live coverage of India vs Nepal in the U19 Asia Cup in Al Amerat.
India have won the toss and captain Lakshya Raichandani has elected to field first against Nepal. The Indian bowlers will get the first crack at the conditions in Al Amerat, with the batters set to take guard later.
Now, Nepal have the chance to put a challenging total on the board and test India's young batting line-up.
India have enjoyed a dominant record against Nepal at the Under-19 level, winning all three of their previous meetings, according to the available head-to-head record. Nepal will be looking to change that statistic, and their performance against Oman suggests they should not be written off.
India may start as favourites, but the youngsters will need to earn that advantage out in the middle.
India U19: Lakshya Raichandani (C), Aaryavir Sehwag, VK Vineeth, Yashbardhan Singh Chauhan (VC), Kushagra Ojha, Arjun Rajput, Manal Chauhan, Anvay Dravid (WK), Rajat Baghel (WK), V Yashveer, Aryan Savsani, Mohit Ulva, Kavya Patel, Shavin Vinod and Ishan Sood.
India have named a 15-member squad led by Lakshya Raichandani, with Yashbardhan Singh Chauhan as vice-captain. Alongside Sehwag and Dravid, there are several other names worth tracking.
VK Vineeth and Kushagra Ojha add batting depth, while Arjun Rajput and Manal Chauhan offer all-round options. The team will be looking to carry forward the confidence gained from their recent 3-0 sweep of Australia. That said, the Asia Cup is a different test, with Pakistan, Nepal and UAE all in India's group.
There will be a little extra interest in India's batting line-up today, with Aaryavir Sehwag and Anvay Dravid part of the squad.
The sons of Virender Sehwag and Rahul Dravid arrive with plenty of attention following them, but both have earned their places on the back of performances in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy, where they registered centuries.
Aaryavir is a top-order batter, while Anvay is a wicketkeeper-batter. The Asia Cup gives them another opportunity to show what they can do at this level, beyond the legacy of their fathers.
Good morning, folks! It's time to turn our attention to the next generation of Indian cricket.
India begin their U19 Asia Cup campaign against Nepal in Al Amerat, and there's plenty to look forward to. From Aaryavir Sehwag and Anvay Dravid carrying famous cricketing surnames to a talented bunch eager to make their own mark, this is where some exciting young stories could begin.
Nepal, of course, will have plans of their own. So, settle in as we bring you all the action from today's contest!
