Imtiaz Ali announces daughter Ida's engagement to boyfriend Krish Agrawal
There’s a new chapter unfolding in filmmaker Imtiaz Ali’s family. The director announced that his daughter, Ida Ali, is engaged to her long-time boyfriend, Krish Agrawal, giving a glimpse of their intimate ceremony where the couple exchanged rings. Imtiaz shared the happy news on Instagram with a simple request: blessings for the newly engaged pair.
Ida looked lovely in a baby pink saree, while Krish wore a black sherwani for the private ceremony. Sharing their picture, Imtiaz wrote, “seeking your blessings, the newly engaged Krish and Idaa.”
The engagement came days after Ida had already given her followers a peek into the proposal. On July 12, she shared a video capturing Krish popping the question and also showed off her engagement ring.
For Imtiaz, the occasion is clearly a deeply personal one. Speaking to Hindustan Times, he said, “It is the greatest happiness for me.” He also revealed that Krish had spoken to him before proposing to Ida.
Krish, 24, works as a quantitative researcher at a hedge fund. He and Ida have been together for a long time and are said to share a love for travelling. While the couple has kept much of their relationship private, Ida’s proposal video and the engagement post have now offered a small glimpse into their journey.
If her surname sounds familiar, Ida has been carving out a creative path of her own. An aspiring filmmaker, she developed an interest in storytelling at a young age and directed her first short film, Lift, when she was just 17.
She later studied filmmaking at Chapman University’s Dodge College of Film and Media Arts in California. Since then, Ida has worked as a writer and director on projects including Maya and Uljhe Hue, the latter of which she wrote for Amazon miniTV.
In 2026, she collaborated with her friend Kareema Barry on short films including On a Whim and Gul. The two also host a Hindi-film-focused podcast and have started their own production company, Blue Curtin Films.

Imtiaz, meanwhile, has been keeping his next directorial venture under wraps. His most recent release, Main Vaapas Aaunga, starred Vedang Raina, Sharvari, Diljit Dosanjh and Naseeruddin Shah. The film had a slow start but benefited from positive word of mouth during its theatrical run. Made on a reported budget of Rs 70 crore, it collected Rs 99 crore worldwide.
