Imran’s sisters ‘on hunger strike for two days’, cousin claims

ISLAMABAD: Three sisters of Imran Khan — Aleema Khan, Uzma Khan and Noreen Niazi — have been on hunger strike for the last 48 hours, according to Imran Khan’s cousin Qasim Zaman, who reached Adiala Jail on Tuesday to meet the former prime minister but was not allowed to do so.

Similarly, interim PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan and Mr Khan’s lawyers also reached Adiala jail, but they were also not allowed to meet their client.

Mr Zaman alleged that the sisters of Imran Khan started their hunger strike due to misbehaviour with them during their detention.

Reports of their being on hunger strike had been circulating, but this was the first time that a family member had confirmed the claims.

PTI lawyer Awais Younas Chaudhry told Dawn that lawyers and a family member reached Adiala jail at 2pm and waited there till 4:30pm, but they were not allowed to meet the PTI founder.

“It is tragic that the jail administration has been violating orders of the Islamabad High Court and Supreme Court of Pakistan but courts appear to be helpless,” he said.
