Selling 200 websites in 12 months may once have required an agency, a sales department and a small army of developers.

A Reddit user with username u/Murky_Explanation_73 says he and his partner did it with something rather different: automation with the support of artificial intelligence and a system designed to remove much of the manual work that ordinarily stands between a developer and a client.

The claim appeared in a June 6 post on Reddit, where the anonymous user wrote that the pair had sold β€œaround 200 websites” in the preceding year.

The account simply offers a glimpse into how some small web businesses are attempting to reorganise their work around AI.

The user says manual outreach was among the first things the pair abandoned. Instead of sending the familiar message – β€œwe can redesign your website” – they say their system examines thousands of business websites and identifies specific shortcomings before preparing personalised outreach.

The problems it looks for, according to the post, include poor mobile optimisation, weak search-engine optimisation, slow loading, design faults and layout problems. The analysis is then used to prepare campaigns without requiring the two partners to inspect each website individually.

It is a small change in method, but an important one. The sale begins not with a general promise to build a better website, but with an argument that a particular website has a particular problem.THE DEVELOPER BECOMES THE SYTEM BUILDER

The user's own account suggests that the greater change came after the sale.

He says he was formerly a full-time WordPress developer and spent much of his time building websites manually. He now uses AI for much of the development work.

The tools named in his post include Apollo for leads, Swokei for website analysis and outreach, Soro for SEO blogging, Claude Code for development and Cloudflare for hosting.

The underlying technology is no longer quite as remarkable as it might once have appeared. Anthropic describes Claude Code as an agentic coding tool capable of reading and editing code, running tests and working with command-line tools.

Later updates have also allowed it to undertake longer and more complex development tasks.SEO BECOMES ANOTHER AUTOMATED LAYER

The Reddit user also credits automated SEO blogging with changing the business. His argument is that once articles begin ranking, businesses can arrive through search rather than being found through direct outreach.

There is, however, a qualification worth making. Google does not regard quantity alone as a sound SEO strategy. Its current guidance says AI may assist content creation, but generating large quantities of pages without adding value can fall under its scaled-content-abuse policy. Google recommends content made for people, with useful information and original value.

The lesson from the Reddit account is not simply that AI can build websites. It is that the unit of work is moving from the individual task to the system.

The craft, in other words, is not disappearing so much as being rearranged. The person who knows only how to make a website may find the field more crowded.

The person who understands how to discover a customer's problem, build the solution and organise the machinery around it may have a different advantage.

The Reddit user's final claim is therefore less a prediction about websites than a statement about work itself: in the age of AI, speed may belong not to the person who works fastest, but to the person who builds the system that does the work.

NOTE: The figure has not been independently verified, and the post does not provide financial records or client details.- Ends
