HMWS&SB to geo tag all private STPs; mandatory registrations by Oct. 1

The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) has instructed all Sewage Treatment Plant operators, agencies, residential colonies, and industries, to compulsorily register its details. The Board said users must complete the registration process by October 1.

As part of it, all private STPs will be surveyed and geo-tagged and their details will be integrated into the Board’s database for monitoring and quality checks. Details at registration will include the plant’s treatment capacity, output and water-quality parameters such as Chemical Oxygen Demand, Biochemical Oxygen Demand, pH and Total Suspended Solids (TSS). And private STPs interested in supplying treated wastewater will be registered as certified suppliers, and the Board conducts regular inspections to monitor compliance.

According to the Board, the initiative is to promote effective utilisation of treated wastewater and strengthen water conservation efforts in the city. The treated wastewater will be channelled for non-potable purposes such as gardening, industrial operations, cleaning, and construction activities.
