Gurugram Hit-And-Run: Both Accused Kalyan Bainsla, Lovneesh Brought to Court; Victim Sia Undergoes Medical Tests - Republic World
New Delhi: The Gurugram Police on Wednesday brought both the accused, Kalyan Bainsla and Lovneesh, to the Gurugram district court in connection with the Golf Course Road hit-and-run case. Both individuals are set to be produced before the court of Civil Judge Nidhi Beniwal.
The court appearance comes even as the victim, Sia, underwent several medical examinations, and former IPS officer Kiran Bedi strongly backed the police action, calling the accused a "coward" who acted out of bruised male dominance. Speaking to ANI about her medical condition, Sia said she has undergone tests to assess internal injuries.
"I have just had tests done, including an ECG. I am experiencing severe body pain, especially in my knees and pelvic area, so I also got X-rays taken. The reports are still awaited; once they come in, we will consult the doctor and decide the next course of action," she said.Meanwhile, the victim’s brother dismissed claims reportedly made by the accused to justify fleeing the scene, calling them absurd in light of clear video evidence.
"The accused has been arrested, and now that he has no other explanation left, he has started making up excuses—claiming he had an urgent need to use the restroom. The entire country has seen how violently he rammed into her and sped away without even stopping. He is using the excuse of an urgent need to use the restroom; it is unbelievable. Why is he even saying this when everyone knows the truth?" he questioned.
Backing the Haryana Police for their swift response, the brother added, “ In my opinion, the action taken against him is entirely justified. Charges like Section 307 (attempt to murder) are completely appropriate. We want to thank the media, social media, and especially the Haryana Police.”
Simultaneously, weighing in on the incident, former IPS officer Kiran Bedi termed the accused a "coward" and alleged that the collision was driven by fragile male ego on the road. "This incident clearly shows that the man could not tolerate a woman—the idea of a lady keeping pace with him at high speed. So, he cut her off to assert dominance," Bedi told ANI.
Emphasising the crucial role of digital evidence, Bedi said, “Had there not been a camera on the girl's motorcycle, we would never have known about it. He fled the scene. This man is a coward who is also afraid of the law. He ran away, went somewhere to get a bandage applied to his hand, and even had his vehicle's number plate removed to prepare his defence. He is a coward through and through.”
Lauding the law enforcement agencies for slapping stringent provisions against the driver, Bedi added that road deterrence must be non-negotiable. "The charges invoked by the Gurugram Police were indeed appropriate. When people are driving and engaging in such behaviour, they should fear the consequences: losing their vehicle and license, being handcuffed, going to jail, facing punishment, paying hefty fines, and suffering public disgrace. We have the laws; what we lack is the right mindset and a sense of fear. We often fail to utilise technology or coordinate effectively," she remarked.
The development comes following the detention of accused Kalyan Bainsla from Dausa in Rajasthan by Gurugram Police after a video of the incident on Golf Course Road went viral on social media, triggering widespread attention. The incident, captured on camera, showed the collision involving Sia's two-wheeler and the car allegedly driven by Bainsla. Following the circulation of the footage, the matter drew significant attention on social media, with the police subsequently taking action against the accused.
