Goods autorickshaw driver killed in crash with judicial officer's car in Mangaluru

A 67-year-old goods autorickshaw driver was killed after his vehicle allegedly collided with a judicial officer's car in Mangaluru on Tuesday, police said. The deceased was identified as Chandra K. The judicial officer, Vinay D, 47, suffered minor injuries, and a scooter rider was also injured in the accident.

Police said the crash took place near the district court complex on Court Cross Road when the speeding goods autorickshaw allegedly rammed the officer's car. A case has been registered, and further legal action is being taken.

According to police sources, Vinay, a resident of Judges Quarters in Hathill, was driving from his residence to the district court complex at Bavutagudda for official duty. At around 10 am, when he reached a curve near a medical shop, a goods autorickshaw coming downhill from the direction of the court allegedly lost control due to rash and negligent driving, police said.

The autorickshaw then veered to the right side of the road and collided with the front right side of the judicial officer's car. Due to the impact, the autorickshaw overturned and hit an oncoming scooter. The autorickshaw driver, the scooter rider and the judicial officer were injured in the accident. Police said the autorickshaw driver later succumbed to his injuries. All three vehicles were substantially damaged in the incident.

Traffic East Police at Kadri have registered a case under Sections 281, 125(a) and 125(b) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with Section 184 of the Motor Vehicles Act. Police said the accident on Court Cross Road left Chandra K dead and injured Vinay D and a scooter rider, and the incident is under investigation.- EndsWith PTI inputs
