Gloomy forecast for south-east Queensland before skies clear again

Wet and cloudy conditions are forecast for south-east Queensland on Monday and Tuesday.
The Gold Coast could have up to 15 millimetres of rain and Brisbane 9mm.
Fine and sunny weather is expected to return to the state's south-east on Wednesday.
The weather bureau predicts a gloomy start to the week for south-east Queensland as showers dampen the mood for beachgoers on school holidays.Β
The Bureau of Meteorology is predicting wet and cloudy conditions for Monday and Tuesday throughout the south-east corner, before the sunshine returns later in the week.Β
The Gold Coast could receive up to 15 millimetres of rain, while Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast could get 9mm.Β
Meteorologist Baden Gilbert said the weather would be a marked change from the warm and sunny weekend.Β

"We're going to have a south-easterly change move up the coast from New South Wales, getting to the Gold Coast around lunchtime and then making its way through Brisbane into the afternoon and the Sunshine Coast into the evening," he said.Β
"We'll be seeing a few showers on that change; that will be a bit of a different feeling to [Sunday's sunshine].Β
"That will then continue into the overnight period and then ease during Tuesday.Β

The bureau said there was the chance of a thunderstorm for the Sunshine Coast late on Monday.Β
The south-east corner will be fine and sunny from Wednesday and into the final weekend of the state's school holiday period.Β
For the rest of the state, the forecast is more consistent.Β
Townsville will be mostly dry with temperatures up to 29 degrees Celsius.Β
There's a possible shower for Mackay early in the week, while Rockhampton and Bundaberg are mostly fine.Β

Longreach and Mount Isa will be hot and sunny with maximums between 33C and 35C.Β
Showers are possible all week in Cairns, with up to 5mm possible across the week, while the mercury will hover in the high 20s.Β
