Globe gets nod from Morgan Stanley as GCash IPO nears
MANILA, Philippines — Globe Telecom Inc. has secured a positive nod from global investment bank Morgan Stanley as its GCash affiliate Mynt moves closer to pricing its highly anticipated initial public offering.
Morgan Stanley maintained its positive view on Globe, highlighting the company’s operating prospects and the potential benefits from continued growth in the country’s digital economy, according to its latest research.
The timing of the assessment adds significance as Mynt, the parent company of GCash, prepares for the next major stage of its IPO following the Philippine Stock Exchange’s approval of its listing application. Globe continues to be the largest minority shareholder of Mynt.
The GCash IPO is expected to draw close investor attention because of the scale of the company’s consumer reach and its position at the center of the Philippines’ rapidly expanding digital financial-services ecosystem.
Globe, through its 33% stake in Mynt, stands to remain an important corporate beneficiary of the continued expansion of GCash and the broader digital economy, even as the IPO represents a separate capital-markets transaction.
Based on the Mynt prospectus and available public records, Globe and Ayala Corp. are maintaining their minority stakes, with no indication that either shareholder intends to divest its position, reinforcing their commitment to retain their combined 33% ownership in the company.
