The Department of Yoga and Consciousness, Andhra University, hosted a free Ayurvedic medical camp at Yoga Village on Beach Road on Sunday, from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Dr. K. Eswara Rao, a retired Senior Medical Officer of King George Hospital, examined patients and distributed medicines free of cost. He said he had held the camp on the first Sunday of every month since 2022.
“The combination of Yoga and Ayurveda can prevent 80% of primary diseases,” Dr. Rao said. He said psychiatric problems and lifestyle disorders such as diabetes, obesity, gastritis and polycystic ovarian disease (PCOD) were on the rise, and that, in his view, they could be overcome through ayurveda.
Dr. Rao said the university’s Department of Yoga and Consciousness had been cooperative in providing the facility. He added that he also visits the department as a guest faculty member to speak on the connection between Yoga and Ayurveda.
Stating that he aimed to offer proper guidance and prescribe appropriate Ayurvedic medicines, Dr. Rao said people who relied on advice from social media were being drawn to the wrong medication and forming a mistaken impression of Ayurveda.
