Four women were killed and several passengers injured after a private bus carrying a group of villagers to attend a funeral overturned on Ananthagiri ghat road in Vikarabad district, Telangana, on Saturday (October 3, 2026), with brake failure suspected to be the reason for the accident.
The deceased included Yadamma, Padmamma and Pramila. The identity of the fourth woman was not immediately known.
Around 54 passengers from Kesaram village in Patancheru were travelling to Chintakunta village in Dharur mandal to attend a funeral when the accident occurred on the downhill stretch of Ananthagiri Hills.
According to preliminary information, the driver allegedly lost control of the bus while descending the ghat road after its brakes failed. The vehicle veered off its path and overturned.
Several passengers were trapped or sustained injuries in the impact. Local residents rushed to their aid and helped bring the injured out of the vehicle before emergency services reached the spot.
Police and rescue personnel subsequently took up relief operations and shifted the injured to a nearby hospital. Seven passengers were reported to have sustained serious injuries, though their condition was not immediately known.
The police have begun an inquiry into the accident, including the suspected brake failure and the circumstances in which the driver lost control of the vehicle.
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy expressed shock over the accident that claimed four lives of four people. He conveyed his condolences to the families of the deceased and directed the Chief Secretary of the State Government to ensure that the injured receive quality medical treatment.

Reacting to the accident, Health Minister Damodar Rajanarsimha directed officials to immediately perform post-mortem examination of the four people who died in the accident and hand over the bodies to their family members.
Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar spoke to Vikarabad Collector and Superintendent of Police to gather details on the reason for the accident, rescue measures and medical treatment being provided to the injured.
