The Telangana Standards Authority for Food and Essential Drugs (TG SAFE) has shut down four food establishments and suspended the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) licences of 13 others following inspections that revealed multiple food safety violations in Nizamabad district.

A total of 14 enforcement teams, comprising Food Safety Officers and Police personnel, inspected 28 food establishments involved in the manufacture of spices, packaged drinking water, sweets and other food products, besides restaurants, on Tuesday (November 3, 2026).

During the inspections, officials found several violations, including unhygienic kitchens, cockroach and housefly infestation, pest-contaminated raw materials, spoiled vegetables, expired food products and improper storage practices. Some establishments were also found using newspapers to cover food articles, while food handlers were working without hairnets and gloves.

The officials also reported the presence of rat droppings, damaged flooring, stagnant water, greasy exhaust systems and refrigerators containing improperly stored and unlabelled prepared and semi-prepared food. Several establishments were found lacking mandatory records, including pest control documentation and health records of food handlers.

As part of the enforcement drive, officials collected 26 food samples on suspicion of adulteration. A total of 9,645 kg of food articles, valued at ₹17.28 lakh, were seized or discarded for violating food safety norms.

Four establishments, Maharaja Sweet and Bakes and Panchavati Sweets in Nizamabad, Shiva Shakti Ice Cream in Dubba and Sagar Bakery in Autonagar, were ordered to close for operating without valid FSSAI licences.

The FSSAI licences of 13 establishments were suspended, with instructions to immediately stop business operations in the interest of public health. These include L.P. Products; Zunaira Family Restaurant; Chappan Bhog Sweets; Hotel Qureshiya; Water Solution Company; Janatha Traders; Ira Foods and Beverages; Sukhjith Starch Mills; Sri Ayyappa Traders; Radhe Mithai Watika; Shree Radhe Enterprises; Mogh Foods Private Limited and Quality Sweets and Chikki (KK Sweets).

Additionally, show-cause notices were issued to 12 establishments for serious violations of food safety norms. Further action, including penalties, will be initiated based on the findings, TG SAFE said.
