A fire at Letaba Rest Camp in the Kruger National Park on Thursday affected two tourist units.

Camp staff, including the ranger team, responded immediately and managed to contain the fire before it could spread.

No injuries or fatalities were reported.

The cause of the fire is not known at this stage, and investigations are under way.

The park said an update would be provided in due course.

All other facilities at the camp, including the park shop, filling station, elephant museum and camp reception, remain operational as normal.

The fire comes just months after the site following its temporary closure due to flood damage experienced in January 2026.

In April last year, a fire was reported at the Lower Sabie Rest Camp in the Kruger National Park, affecting the shop and restaurant.

According to SANParks spokesperson, JP Louw, rangers and staff acted quickly to confirm the fire before it spread to nearby structures. 

"No injuries or fatalities were reported," he said.
