Excise officials arrested a youth with alleged possession of 106 g of MDMA at Vilappilsala in Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday.

The accused has been identified as Aromal, a native of Aryanad. The arrest was made as part of the Excise Department’s ongoing Operation Toofan, under which intensified inspections have been conducted across the district during the last few days. The Excise Enforcement and Anti-Narcotic Special Squad conducted the operation.

According to official sources, the contraband was recovered from the accused’s motorcycle, which has also been taken into custody. The investigators are probing whether Aromal has links with other drug networks operating around Nedumangad, Aryanad and Malayinkeezhu, including those targeting educational institutions.

The arrest comes a day after two young men were arrested near Puthenkada along the NH-66 bypass allegedly with nearly 55 g of MDMA.
