The Excise department on Friday (September 18, 2026) claimed to have seized suspected banned tobacco products worth around ₹26 lakh from a godown in Perumbavoor town.

The suspected contraband in around 26,000 packets was reportedly seized after breaking open the godown, which was locked following a tip-off, a senior Excise officer said. The godown was rented by a Malappuram native, and a search has been launched to trace him.

“The banned product is sold at a price as high as ₹100 per packet often,” the officer said.

The seizure was made during a joint raid by the Excise Commissioner’s squad, Excise intelligence team, and the Perumbavoor Excise range team.
