Manchester United Muslim Supporters Club (MUMSC) has called for a change in the club’s ownership structure, saying it has lost confidence in the current leadership. The supporters’ group made the call after co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe spoke about immigration, taxes and welfare during a BBC interview, saying Britain was “on the slide”. Ratcliffe, the founder of petrochemical company Ineos, attributed what he described as the country’s decline to a combination of high taxes and high immigration. As reported by BBC Sport on Saturday, MUMSC said Ratcliffe’s latest comments were “deeply disappointing and completely unacceptable”, noting that it had previously condemned remarks he made in February about immigration. After years of decline, broken promises and repeated failure, Manchester United Muslim Supporters’ Club has lost confidence in the current ownership structure of Manchester United Football Club,” MUMSC concluded. “Enough is enough. It is time for change. The Glazers and Sir Jim Ratcliffe must go.” The group stressed that Manchester United’s identity was built around a diverse community of players, staff, stewards, security personnel and supporters from different countries, cultures, ethnicities and religions. “Manchester United would not be Manchester United without them,” the group said. MUMSC also criticised the club’s ownership over issues including higher ticket prices, the condition of Old Trafford and the team’s performances. Ratcliffe acquired a 27.7% stake in Manchester United in 2024 and has since overseen major restructuring at the club, including hundreds of redundancies and changes.
