Dozens of Inmates Probed in Cibinong Prison Luxury Housing Fiasco - Tempo.co English

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Dozens of inmates at the Class II A Penitentiary Cibinong has been probed in relation to Ombudsman's findings on luxurious facilities for inmates. This was confirmed by the Inspector General of the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections, Commissioner General Rudi Setiawan.

"We have conducted inspections from yesterday until today, with a total of 52 inmates," he said in a press conference at Cibinong Prison on Saturday, September 26, 2026.

Rudi stated that they have scheduled inspections of 54 Cibinong Prison staff.

Following the Ombudsman's findings, 5 officials at Cibinong Prison have been suspended. They are the Head of Prison, Head of the Penitentiary Security Unit, Head of the Inmate Education Unit, Head of the Security and Order Unit, and Head of General Affairs.

During a surprise inspection on September 23, the Ombudsman found a residential complex with luxurious facilities behind the house of the Head of the Prison, Wisnu Hani Putranto.

There are around 13 residential units of different types, separate from the detention cells. However, the Ombudsman's team found a number of inmates inside these residential units.

One of the inmates, a well-known convict in a corruption case, even locked the door from the inside where the Ombudsman team broke into one of the houses. The inmate's photo was also displayed on the front table, near the locked room. To Tempo, the Ombudsman inspectors confirmed the identity of the inmate.

Regarding the discovery of the photo, Rudi said his agency will investigate it further. "We have already seized the photo," he said. As for the residences, he confirmed that they are the official residences of the prison officers.
