Disaster declared as heavy rains spark Bangkok flooding

Days of almost continuous heavy rains have caused widespread flooding in the Thai capital, with the city's governor declaring it a disaster-affected zone.

Almost 300 millimetres (11.8 inches) has fallen over the period, and more is expected in the coming days, according to Governor Chadchart Sittipunt.

Videos from Bangkok show cars trying to navigate roads that have been entirely submerged by the floodwaters, with some vehicles appearing stranded.
