Delhi gangrape case: Accused washed clothes after crime, police probe conspiracy

Two accused in the Aastha Kunj gangrape case allegedly washed their clothes, including their lowers, after returning home following the incident, in what police suspect could have been an attempt to destroy evidence, sources said.

According to sources, accused Hemant and Mukesh went to their home in Srinivaspuri after the alleged crime and washed their clothes. Police are also examining whether the act was intended to remove possible evidence from the clothes.

Sources said Hemant has studied law. Investigators are looking into whether his legal background had any role in the alleged attempt to destroy evidence. However, this remains part of the investigation.

Police have also added criminal conspiracy sections to the FIR after recovering a pistol, a knife and a condom from accused Asif.

According to sources, Asif, Hemant and Mukesh have been friends since childhood and often visited the park together.

Police suspect the three may have planned the alleged attack before targeting the 17-year-old girl at Aastha Kunj Park in southeast Delhi on Monday evening.

The girl was allegedly at the park with a friend on her birthday when the accused approached them while posing as police officers.

Sources said the accused used language associated with police personnel, including addressing the girls as “janab”, and allegedly issued threats to convince them that they were policemen.

Police found several obscene videos on Asif's mobile phone, according to sources. Investigators also suspect that Mukesh and Hemant deleted their search histories after the incident.

The Delhi Police has sent the mobile phones of all three accused for forensic examination.

Investigators are examining their digital records to determine whether the devices contain evidence of planning or other links to the alleged crime.

The recovery of a pistol, knife and condom from Asif has led police to add criminal conspiracy sections to the FIR, according to sources. Police are also investigating whether Asif routinely carried weapons and whether he had previously targeted women in or around the park.

Sources said Asif is being examined as a possible key figure in the case. He reportedly lives near the park and frequently visited the area.ACCUSED ALLEGEDLY THREATENED VICTIM

According to sources, after the alleged assault, the accused went to a food outlet before returning to their home in Srinivaspuri.

They allegedly threatened the girl with consequences if she told anyone about the incident.
