CPI(M) Srikakulam District Secretary D. Govinda Rao on Tuesday demanded the government to order a high-level probe into the alleged grabbing of Narayanapuram lands that, he said, had been cultivated by farmers for many decades.

Along with CPI(M) senior leaders Pakala Tejeswara Rao, Ch.Ammannaidu and others, he led a ‘padayatra’ from Chilakapalem to Srikakulam despite the heavy rain along the route.

The leaders and party workers walked nearly 15 km to reach the district headquarters and register their protest over the issue. “The government should take back the lands from influential persons and distribute them to cultivators. Otherwise, we will take up another ‘padayatra’ to Amaravati to step up pressure on the government,” said Mr. Govinda Rao.

Farmers along with their family members also participated in the protest and raised slogans against the government.
