Cop shoots sister dead, then dies by suicide; cops suspect family dispute

A police constable allegedly shot his sister dead before shooting himself with his service revolver at their home in Patna, on Tuesday evening.

The dead police personnel has been identified as Om Chandra, who was posted in Motihari, while his sister has been identified as Parvati Kumari.

According to Patna West City Superintendent of Police Sanket Kumar, Danapur police received information at around 8 pm that two people had suffered gunshot wounds. After verifying the information, a police team reached the spot and found that Om Chandra, who was serving in the Bihar Police and posted in Motihari, had shot his sister Parvati Kumari with his service revolver. He then shot himself.

The police recovered Om Chandra's service revolver from the scene along with two empty bullet casings. A Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team was also called to collect evidence from the spot.

The bodies of the two deceased were sent to the Danapur Sub-Divisional Hospital for post-mortem examination.

Police said a family-related issue is believed to be behind the incident. Police also said information had emerged that the deceased constable's sister was not in a stable mental state.
