Australian comedian Judith Lucy says she has recently been diagnosed with breast cancer.

She made the announcement via social media today.

She says she will undergo a double mastectomy.

Australian comedian and actor Judith Lucy has announced she has been diagnosed with breast cancer and will undergo a double mastectomy.

In a video posted to social media, Lucy said she received the diagnosis three weeks ago, which was "relatively" non-aggressive and in the early stages.

She said although she originally was slated to undergo a lumpectomy, her doctor found more cancer last week and decided to remove one of her breasts.

"I said, 'While you are there, let's get rid of the other one,'" she said.

"So I think I am quite fine with going bra-free for my last chapter.

She starred in an ABC series called Judith Lucy Is All Woman, and has appeared on Australian talk shows including Rove and The Project.

Last week, Lucy released a book titled Well Well Well: My Wellness Odyssey from Psychics to Psychedelics and Beyond.

"There is nothing like releasing a book about wellness as you are being diagnosed with breast cancer," she said.

"Kind of the point of the book is that there are no quick fixes, and we should all just be living differently."

There has been an outpouring of support for Lucy on her social media posts from fellow comedians.

Celia Pacquola commented that she was "the most spectacular woman with [or] without those 10/10 knockers".

Geraldine Hickey wrote that "It'll be a weight off your chest!"

Dave Hughes said, "you make everything funny. And how do we buy this book? Xmas gifts sorted for all. Love you Judith."

Writer Ben Law commented that this news "sucks".

"We love you…we all promise to order your book in honour of your norks," he wrote.
