College football rankings shakeup as US LBM Coaches Poll Top 25 has new look in top 10 - USA Today

The new US LBM Coaches Poll is out, and as one would expect following an epic top-10 showdown and a couple other notable upsets there are a few changes.

The top five teams, however, remain the same, as they all won over the weekend with relative ease. Texas retains the No. 1 spot for another week, claiming 46 of 74 first-place votes. Georgia holds at No. 2 with 16 firsts, followed by Notre Dame at No. 3 with a pair of top nods. Indiana stays at No. 4 with nine firsts, with the final top vote going to No. 5 Miami (Fla.).

The shuffling begins at No. 6, as Mississippi climbs three positions after taking down LSU. The Rebels nudge ahead of Ohio State, which easily handled Kent State but slips one spot to No. 7 nonetheless. Alabama gains two positions to No. 8 after outlasting Florida State. A couple of Big 12 squads move up to round out the top 10 as Brigham Young climbs to No. 9 and Texas Tech checks in at No. 10.

LSU falls just four places to No. 11, staving off No. 12 Southern California by 10 poll points. Tennessee moves up a notch to No. 13 on the eve of next week’s home date with the top-ranked Longhorns.

Texas A&M stays in the poll but takes a 12-position drop to No. 20 after a home loss to Kentucky in its SEC opener. Joining the rankings this week are No. 19 Louisville, a winner against No. 25 SMU, and No. 22 Florida, off to a 3-0 start thanks to a win at Auburn. Houston and Virginia fall from the top 25.
